Vaccinations- Side Effects

  • Only healthy animals can be vaccinated.
  • We will not vaccinate a sick patient, i.e., one that is sneezing, coughing, vomiting, and/or experiencing diarrhea.
  • Vaccinations are designed to prevent disease NOT to treat; they can exacerbate a sick patient.
  • There are rare side effects that can happen with any vaccination including but not limited to: injection site redness/swelling (injection sarcomas are rare; about 1 in 10,000 patients), muscular soreness, allergic reactions, mild depression, loss of appetite, lethargy, and fever.
  • Vaccine reactions rarely occur; if they do, they usually subside within 1 to 2 days. If they do not, please call us immediately.
  • If you know your pet is sensitive or allergic to a vaccine please let one of our staff know.
